Structural Framing for Large Sculptures: We are very pleased to receive the news that the construction work to suspend a 33 ft high modern sculpture by Niki de St. Phalle, was completed in November 15, 1997. The sculpture called "L’Ange Protectrice", is suspended under the ceiling of equally famous Zurich Central Train Station in Switzerland. This Train Station was designed by French engineer, Gustave Eiffel of Eiffel Tower fame. TME was honored to be assigned the task of designing the internal framing and the suspension system of the sculpture. The challenge was to design the sculpture to weigh below 3000 kg and be easily to assembled. The sculpture was constructed under the supervision of Gerry Kirk of Sand Sculpture International of Encinitas, California. Want to know more about this interesting project? Please call Jan Ma, structural engineer at (800) 298 5522.
