Piers, Docks, and Seawalls: Water-Front Structures, We have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work on several large marine projects. A 80,000 "DWT" tanker terminal we designed, was designated by the client a "showcase" structure to visiting dignitaries. Marine projects are scarce. When we have one, we want to bring fresh ideas into the design. For a project in Kuwait, we proposed six different ideas to upgrade an existing dock and evaluated the economical and technical merit of each. In another special situation project, we created a detailed ship docking procedure so that an existing 30,000 ton capacity dock could temporarily accept the docking of a 110,000 ton LNG tanker. In Carlsbad, California, we designed a special seawall to protect a beach front house. This unique seawall does not appear like any other seawall and was designed to blend in with the natural environment. In San Diego, CA. we designed an emergency seawall to protect a multi-unit condominium building. This emergency seawall has protected the multi-unit condominium building since January 2001. TM Engineers, Inc. has also been the structural Design Engineer for various repair projects at the Municipal Pier of San Clemente, CA.
